Water as the Source of Beauty and Sustenance of Life in al-Jannah as Stated in the Quran In divine religions, Jannah, or the heaven, is the place in the afterlife in which people who have led their lives in a good cause will be rewarded. Allah fulfills his servants’ desire to secure an eternally happy and prosperous life, in the numerous Jannahs which have been named and described with their characteristics. It is important to remark Allah’s persua- sion and captivation of, using the promise of water, the people who lived in a zone where spring water was hard to find and other contemporaneous addressees who were desper- ate for water. Therefore the study aims to ascertain and identify the connection between water and life in Jannah where the human lust for eternal existence and prosperity is sat- isfied. Examined within the scope of this study are the names of Jannah, the types, sources and qualities of water in Jannah as well as the items similar to pots or containers used to carry it. The primary subjects are examined under the light and with the data from the related verses of the Quran, the Hadith for clarification, the classical Tafseer books and wordbooks. The reasons will be sought as for what purpose a particular piece of informa- tion regarding the subject was given in the Quran. It is, however, essential to realize that such information regarding the spiritual afterlife can be comprehended via comparison with the material world; while the absolute truth is in fact beyond human comprehen- sion

İlahi dinlerde, dünyada iyilik üzere yaşayanların ödüllendirilecekleri hayat ahiret, mekânı ise cennettir. Allah, kullarının geleceğini güven altına alma, daima mutlu ve refah içerisinde yaşama eğilimlerini, birçok isim ve özelliklerine yer verdiği cennetlerle karşılamaktadır. Kur’ân’ın, su kaynakları kıt ve ona erişimin zor olduğu bir coğrafyada yaşayan ilk ve çağdaş muhataplarını, su aracılığıyla iman etmeye ikna ve cennete cezbetmesinin tesbiti önem arz etmektedir. Bu sebeple çalışma, insanın sonsuz hayatta ebedi huzura erme arzusuna cevap teşkil edebilecek cennet hayatının su ile alakasını tesbit etmeyi hedeflemektir. Çalışma, cennetin isimleri, onu cazip kılan suların nevileri, kaynakları, vasıfları ve kapları konularıyla sınırlıdır. Bu temel konular, Kur’ân-ı Kerim’in müteşabih ayetleri, ayetlerdeki mücmellikleri gideren hadisleri ve klasik tefsirlerin ve lügatlerin verileriyle incelenecektir. Zikredilen bilgilerin hangi amaçla Kur’ân-ı Kerîm’de yer aldığının cevabı bulunmaya çalışılacaktır. Ancak manevi müteşabih kapsamındaki ahiret hayatına dair bu bilgilerin, görünen âleme kıyasla kavranabildiğini ve hakikatinin, aklı aşan özelliklerde olduğunu unutmamak gerekmektedir
