THE CONCEPT OF HIKMA IN QUR’AN -THE VERSES OF HIKMA IN QUR’AN ACCORDING THE INTERPRETERS
Abstract
The word of “hikma”, mentioned in Qur’an twenty times in nineteen verses
has meanings like to prevent something, to put something on a sound footing, to
be to the point in words and works, to put everything in a right place. The word of
“hikma” has different meanings according to the verses it is used. It is possible to
comment about the meanings of “hikma” in Qur’an like this when the explanations
of interpreters are taken into account. Hikma has a scientific and practical dimension.
Some interpreters emphasizes on a scientific dimension and some emphasizes
on practical dimension of hikma when they interpret the verses about hikma, some
of them stresses on that hikma is composed of science and practice. Hikma has a
meaning of reliable and useful science and understanding which makes people do
good works and provides to mature morality. With this meaning, hikma is a concept
related with the wholeness of belief and practice in Islam. The second and important
meaning which is attributed to the hikma according to the Qur’an is the Sunna,
applying of prophecy and revelation. Another meaning attributed to hikma according
to Qur’an is the Qur’an itself and the explanations in Qur’an.

Öz
Sözlükte bir şeye engel olmak, işi sağlam yapmak ve sağlamlaştırmak, sözde ve fiilde isabetli olmak ve her şeyi yerli yerine koymak gibi anlamlara gelen hikmet kelimesi Kur’an’da on dokuz ayette, yirmi defa geçmektedir. Hikmet kelimesi, geçtiği ayetlerde değişik anlamlar taşır. Müfessirlerin açıklamaları göz önünde bulundurulduğunda hikmet kelimesinin Kur’an’daki anlamlarıyla ilgili olarak şu yorumu yapmak mümkündür: Hikmetin bir ilmî, bir de amelî boyutu vardır. Hikmetin geçtiği ayetlerin tefsirini yaparken bazı müfessirler hikmetin ilim boyutunu, bazıları amel yönünü, bir kısmı da hikmetin ilim ve amelden ibaret olduğunu vurgulamışlardır. Hikmet, kişiyi güzel ameller yapmaya götüren, kişinin ahlâkının olgunlaşmasını sağlayan sağlam ve faydalı ilim ve anlayış manasındadır. Bu manasıyla hikmet, İslâm’daki iman-amel bütünlüğüyle de alâkalı bir kavramdır. Kur’an’a göre hikmete atfedilen ikinci ve önemli bir mana da nübüvvet ve vahyin uygulanması olan Sünnettir. Kur’an’da hikmete atfedildiğini düşündüğümüz diğer bir mana da Kur’an’ın kendisi ve Kur’an’da geçen hükümlerin açıklamalarıdır
