AN INTELLECTUAL PATHOLOGY: FROM OUR CIVILIZATIONAL PERCEPTION THE IMPOSSIBILITY/ROOTLESNESS OF THE OCCIDENTALIST DISCOURCE

Some conceptual dichotomies such as modernism-postmodernism and occidentalism-orientalism are originated from Western intellectual universe. Occidentalist and orientalist discources are the the conceptual productions of the Western intelligencia. The Occidentalism which is indicating to a mental pathological stand is constructing its existence on the orientalism itself. So, the occidentalist discourse has the same intellectual dissabilities which the orientalism possesses. Here, in this article first we discussed the interrelation between the main discourse i.e. orientalism and the opposite discourse i.e. Occidentalism. Secondly it will be argued that the occidentalist discourse is an rootless paradigm from the Islamic civilization point of view. And lastly, we will refer to Ibn Rushd’s methodology or concept of science in order to support our argumentation.

Medeniyetimize özgü bilim algısı ve bu algı doğrultusunda şekillenen gelenek çerçevesinde Batı düşüncesine özgü oksidantalizm-oryantalizm kavramsal dikotomisi konu edilecektir. Bilim tasavvurumuz ve geleneğimiz açısından oksidantalist söylemin retorik, diyalektik ve analitik/akademik düzeyde üretiminin imkânı sorunu tartışma konusu yapılacaktır. Bu sorunun konu edilmesi Müslüman entelektüellerin tutulduğu zihinsel agnoziyi ortaya koyması açısından önem arzetmektedir. Oryantalizm karşısında savunmacı bir refleksi ifade eden oksidantalizm ontolojik, epistemolojik ve etik-bilimsel bir kısım maluliyetler içermektedir. Oryantalizm üzerinden kendisini kuran oksidantalizm, oryantalist perspektifin taşıdığı marazi vasıfları yüklenmiş durumdadır. Bu çalışmada, medeniyet algımız açısından oksidantalist söylemin bilimsel bir yöntem, akademik bir disiplin olarak varlığının köksüzlüğü sorununu filozof İbn Rüşd’ün perspektifini sahici bir örneklem olarak sunmak suretiyle ele alacağız
