Today there are a good many Cd’s produced by different companies/institutions and
individuals which contain electronic versions of printed Islamic books. Despite this fact,
there are no articles which evaluate these products concerning the Islamic sciences from
a general view. This paper aimes to give the user a glance to the major products on this
field and their possibilities of scholarly use.
This article consists of an introduction and two parts: The historicâl development of
the issue, enabling Arabic on Windows and advantages/disadvantages of electronic texts
are issued in the introduction. The first part consists of the introduction of the producing
companies/institutions, their major products and their basic features. The second part
deals with various problems and defects/lacks which result from the software itself, the
user or the used operating system.
