ON THE RELIGIOUS REFERENCES OF TRAINING AND PRACTISING OF SURGERY/CADAVER IN THE MEDICIAL HISTORY OF OTTOMAN

Abstract

There are several negative opinions and comments present in certain resources particularly with regards to the Ottoman scope and Islamic in general, of medicine, medical treatment and surgery. Some of these claims are that Islam prohibits (jawaaz) or at least disapproves (makrooh) surgery and anatomical studies during the education of surgery by which Muslims didn’t have an appeal in the field of medicine adequately. In this study, the subject is discussed through the main sources of Islam and based on the fatwa (juridical verdicts) and archive records, the certain points in Ottoman Period are determined. The points which have been concluded indicate that these claims are unreal.
