The Examining of Critical Thinking Dispositions of Religious Culture and Ethics Teacher Candidates
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine the critical thinking dispositions of Religious
Culture and Ethics teacher candidates. In the survey, descriptive research method is used.
Area of the study in the academic year 2011-2012 is Ataturk, Dicle, Dokuz Eylul, Erciyes,
Istanbul, Marmara, Ondokuz Mayıs, Necmettin Erbakan ve Uludag University, Faculty of
Education, Department of Religious Culture and Ethics Education. The sample of the
study consist of 813 pre-service teachers on the Department of Religious Culture and
Ethics Education. The data was collected in this study by using the “The California Critical
Thinking Disposition Inventory” which is developed in 1992 as a result of Delphi Project
organized by American Philosophy Association in 1990 and adapted into Turkish by
İskifoglu and Agazade
The results indicated that the critical thinking dispositions of the pre-service teachers of
Religious Culture and Ethics is low in general. Pre-service teachers who are constitute the
study group are mostly in an equivalence range and ambivalent or in a low range and
hostile/adverse according to their scores from sub-dimensions of the inventory.
According to study results, some suggestions to improve critical thinking disposition and
skill levels of pre-service Religious Culture and Ethics teachers were made.
