The Critics of Zaylai on Ibn Turkmani and Qurashi and the Relationship Between These Three Hadith Scholars Ibn al-Turkmani and his two disciples Zaylai and Qurashi, who have lived in the 8th cen- tury of the Hijra in the the same environment, have written treatises on the evaluation of the soundness of hadith in the classical Hanafi fiqh manual al-Hidaya. Zaylai claimed that his mentor Ibn al-Turkmani has made mistakes in the takhrij of more than 60 narrations and added that 2/3 of them were made due to copying the views of another scholar. Zay- lai has not disclosed the name of the scholar but qualified him as an “ignorant person”. By the examination of Qurashi’s treatise we understand that that scholar is Qurashi. We can explain this clear animosity in Zaylai’s style when compared to his other criticisms as ‘competition among contemporaries’. Another possible reason is the fact that Ibn al- Turkmani, the mentor of both, had endorsed administrative duities and was closer to Qurashi in his relations
